Free phone number lookup
Type a phone number and we check it against the same carrier routing data the phone network uses. You get back whether the number is real, what kind of line it is, who the carrier is, and where the number was issued. No account, no email, nothing to install.
This is the same lookup our API runs for dialers, SMS platforms and signup forms, so the free result is a fair sample of what you would get at scale. The fields we hold back on the free page (caller name, porting history, LRN and OCN codes) are the ones that cost us money on every query, and they are unlocked on any trial key.
What you get back
Validity. Whether the number is assigned and routable right now, not just whether it has ten digits. A number that passes a format check can still be disconnected or never issued.
Line type. Mobile, landline, VoIP or toll-free. This decides whether an SMS will ever arrive, and it is the single most useful field for cleaning a lead list before you dial.
Carrier. The current carrier of record from the number portability database, so a number that started on AT&T and moved to T-Mobile shows T-Mobile.
Location. The rate center city and state the number belongs to. Area code alone is a rough guess; the rate center is the exchange the number was actually issued from.
How to use it
- Paste the number in any format. Dashes, spaces, parentheses and a leading 1 are all fine. For non-US numbers include the country code with a plus sign.
- Press Look up. The check takes well under a second because we query the carrier database directly rather than scraping a directory site.
- Read the result. Green means the number is live and routable. If you need caller name, porting dates or the LRN, start a free trial and call the same number through the API.
Who uses this
Sales and lead-gen teams. A purchased list with 20 percent dead numbers wastes a fifth of every dialer shift. Checking validity and line type first fixes that before the first call.
SMS and notification senders. Texting a landline fails silently and still costs a segment. Filtering to mobile numbers protects deliverability and spend.
Anyone with a number on their missed calls. Seeing that a number is a VoIP line from a datacenter carrier tells you a lot about whether to call back.

Is this phone lookup really free?
Yes. The free page returns validity, line type, carrier, city and state with no account. It is limited to 20 lookups a minute per visitor. The API adds caller name, porting history and routing codes, and comes with 1,000 free credits.
Where does the data come from?
From the carrier routing and number portability databases (LRN and OCN records) that route real calls, queried live. That is why a ported number shows its current carrier instead of the one printed on old lists.
Does it work for international numbers?
Validity and country come back for most countries. Carrier, line type and location detail is deepest for the US and Canada.
Can I see who owns the number?
Caller name (CNAM) is available through the API for US and Canadian numbers. It returns the name the carrier registered on the line, which is a business name or a subscriber name. We do not sell address or background data.
Why does a number show valid but nobody answers?
Valid means assigned and routable. It does not mean someone picks up. For reachability of mobiles, the HLR check on paid plans tells you whether the handset is currently registered on the network.
How do I run this on a whole list?
Start a trial, then call the phone endpoint once per row, or use the Zapier, Make or n8n recipes on our integrations pages to run it inside a workflow. Bulk CSV upload is on the roadmap.
